Our main annual fundraiser is the Dam to Downtown 10k, which goes from the Coralville Dam to Downtown Iowa City. We are in need of volunteers to place along the race route to ensure runner safety. There will be a bus of volunteers and runners that will leave College Green Park at 7:15 AM. We’ll drop off the runners at the starting line at the dam for another bus to pick them up, and then start dropping off the volunteers at their respective stations along the route. A bus will follow the last runner and pick up the volunteers and bring them back to College Green. I anticipate you will be done by 9:30 as the last runner usually crosses after about an hour and 10 minutes. Duties: encourage the runners, ensure they’re going the right direction, and if necessary, some light traffic control if you’re at an intersection. Please bring your cell phone in case a runner gets injured in your area... we’ll have an ambulance on site. Please meet at College Green around 7:00 (corner of College and Johnson Streets). There is parking along the streets, or a parking garage a couple blocks away at the corner of Gilbert and College (Chauncey Swan). Starbucks coffee will be there before you get on the bus, and a free Panchero’s burrito card will be there after the race ☺

Description
What Is the Greater Iowa City Area Student Scholarships?
GICA Student Scholarships (formerly Dollars for Scholars) is a local, volunteer-run, community-based scholarship foundation based in Iowa City, Iowa. The chapter began awarding scholarships to high school graduates in 2005. Since that time the chapter has awarded over $150,000 to area students.
Why Does Iowa City Need GICA Student Scholarships?
Graduates of Iowa City's three high schools: Iowa City City High, Iowa City West High and the Senior High Alternative Center (Elizabeth Tate) currently have very limited local scholarship opportunities, with the majority of those scholarships going to the highest academically ranked students. GICA Student Scholarships encourages all students to continue their education and will make the transition from high school a little easier by providing aid that would allow students to work less while in school.
