Did you know? Cancer is the leading cause of death in Washington. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will get cancer in their lifetime. Here in Washington, 38,000 people will be diagnosed in 2015... 12,500 may lose that battle. The LGBT community has a unque cancer burden as well, with higher rates of certain cancers and astronomically higher rates of tobacco use! These's are scary statistics but there is hope!

Join the world's largest and most impactful movement in the fight against cancer right here in Seattle! The Relay For Life of Capitol Hill unites Seattleites in a common cause; to make this cancer's last century! Relay events are community-owned and volunteer driven, meaning this event is unique to the Hill while being a part of a much bigger movement across the globe.

The Relay For Life of Capitol Hill is looking for community members to be a part of this 12 hour walk at Cal Anderson Park by signing up teams for the event. Teams can be from social groups, sports teams, faith groups, businesses, corporations, schools, etc. and can be anywhere from 2 to 30+ people. Each team member takes turns walking at the event while helping out with individual and team fundriasing prior to and at the Relay.

The dollars raised help support cancer patient programs and services here locally and across the county, innovative cancer research at place like Fred Hutch and UW Medicine (we are the largest private funder of cancer research in the US!), educational and awareness campaigns helping us prevent cancer and advocacy on the state and federal level, ensuring that people have access to quality care! At the event, we promote healthy living and educate particiaptns on how they can take action to prevent cancer.

The Relay For Life of Capitol Hill will be on August 15th, 2015 at Cal Anderson Park. If you are interested in being a Team Captain, visit www.CapHillRelay.org and register for free! There is no registration fee to sign up or fundraising obligation as we want to engage as many people as possible in the fight against cancer here in Seattle!

You can also or reach out to Curtis Thomas at Curtis.Thomas@cancer.org or 206-683-0942 to talk more about the Team Captain role.

**Time commitment is different for each team but you can expect it to be around 2-3 hours a month. Most of this will be done on your own time and schedule.
