Open Door’s College Internship Program offers a variety of opportunities that will support professional and personal growth. Most of the internships are designed for college students who are considering careers in medicine, social work, nutrition and public health. A few internships are offered in other areas, such as event planning, education and business. By participating in one of our internships, you will learn about careers in community health and medicine, gain transferable skills and knowledge, and be better prepared to make an informed decision for your future.

All of the internships are offered as unpaid volunteer positions. The internship opportunities are hands-on and closely supervised by seasoned professionals at Open Door. While we are unable to offer shadowing opportunities with our medical providers, our interns will work closely with one of our experienced supervisors and learn job functions under their mentorship and guidance. All interns will both be asked to submit an evaluation of their experience and be invited to participate in a resumé workshop. The internships will culminate at the end of July with an appreciation party and a certificate of completion.

It is important to note that supervising a for-credit internship is at the discretion of the Open Door supervisor and our internship program is not university/college-accredited. However, it is possible that your college or university may consider this program for credit; we have had interns that have received credit for their internships. If approved for credit by Open Door and your school , your school will be requested to sign an affiliation agreement.
