Who we are: The Child Placement Review Board is an independent, citizen-based agency that has established Review Panels in each of Delaware's three counties. The Review Panels bring citizens of diverse backgrounds and perspectives to focus on the needs of individual children. Panel members meet at most twice monthly to review these children in the care or custody of the state. Panel members conduct these reviews in a professional and formal manner with the children's interested parties that are invited and are required to ask a series of questions and to form reccomendations regarding the services, placement and family court goal. Following the child's review, official reports are written by staff with the Board's reccomendations attached that are sent to family court. These reviews are scheduled to coinside with the children's family court hearings and serve as an additional support for Judges during those hearings.

Qualifications of board members*.

A panel member must be a citizen of Delaware who has demonstrated an interest in children and their welfare through community service or professional experience or who possesses a background in law, sociology, psychology, psychiatry, education, theology, social work, medicine or related fields.

*A person employed by a placement agency, contract agency or the Family Court of this State may not be appointed to the Board.

Description

The Child Placement Review Board is an independent, citizen-based agency that has established Review Committees in each of Delaware's three counties. We are seeking volunteers with some knowledge of the child welfare system, those versed in education, mental health, or have a personal knowledge of the foster care system.

We require our new members attend a formal training and observe several reviews prior to officially sitting on a panel. We also require that volunteers attend their scheduled review days on a regular basis, and that they attend at least 75% of their reviews yearly. We also require all board members to undergo yearly trainings and information sessions so that they are familiar with the emerging practices and trends regarding child welfare and best practices.

We offer morning, afternoon and evening panels that meet twice monthy with their board. Our reviews are held several days of the week, never on weekends. You will be required to serve on a panel in the county in which you are a resident.

We are seeking energetic new volunteers that can bring a fresh new perspective to our exsisting panels and current board members. We want these potential volunteers to be passionate about serving the best interests of children in state custody.

This is a State of Delaware Governor appointed volunteer position. The application can be obtained at: http://governor.delaware.gov/boards-comms.shtml
