Silver Lining Villages and The Metro Atlanta Urban Farm will conduct a film discussion series which will include showing the films, with a quick gardening lesson and a discussion after the film screening, which may include a guest speaker.
All films are related to:
sustainable agriculture; alternative healing for military (and anyone else); environment; sustainable living and alternative fuel and construction
We plan showing one film per month at present, however, if we have at least two dedicated volunteers, we have enough films to show two per month.
Volunteers are needed:
- on the day of each event once or twice a month, to put down and pick up chairs, make popcorn and snacks, help clean the area, etc.
- to make calls to the film's producers before we launch to be sure we have permission to show their work in this setting
- to help with publicity using social media
- to distribute fliers and press releases, etc. - most of this is already set up and needs someone to complete delivery, sort of on a regular basis (as in keep some fliers in your car, and wherever you go, put fliers out, and send out press releases to identified sources)
- find subject related local speakers who want to come out and talk about the subject matter
Very simple, but volunteers must like film, gardening or veterans to stay engaged, and be participatory on an ongoing basis. We need people interested in seeing these subjects shared with the rest of the community, and lively dialog created from the series. Volunteers must be reliable and certain they can participate, even if it is only for three or four of the dates during the year. Success of the series is based upon great follow through.
Time commintments -(could be done by different volunteers)
- probably 12 hours during March total before the first film, to obtain or be sure we have permission
- probably 5 hours on the day of each screening
- about 10 hours per month spent on PR
- about 10 hours per month spent on flier distribution
- about 5 hours per month looking for and solidifying guest speakers
Some of the films are as follows, at one film per month, but will double if we have interested, dedicated volunteers to two films per month:
