Every Life Matters
Benny, suffering from Valley Fever in the bones could not walk when he came to Pima Paws For Life. Now, he's waiting for a friend and for his forever home.

Pima Paws For Life (PPFL), is a 501c3 private adoption guarantee animal shelter in Tucson, AZ. PPFL takes in sick and injured animals from Pima Animal Care Center (PACC-county open intake shelter) to help reduce the euthanasia rate of dogs and cats with treatable conditions. Are you interested in volunteering, but not sure what you can do? We need help with all of the following areas.

Dog walking/socialization: We are in of need regular walkers to come out every day! Dog walking hours are DAILY from 7:00am to 12:00am and 2pm-7pm The shelter is closed from 12pm-2pm.

Cat care/Socialization: Hand wash between loving on each cat. Help ensure water bowls are filled with clean water. If the litter boxes have waste in them, scoop. Main thing though is to love and pet on each cat. We want them used to being handled by people in a positive fashion.

Off-site Adoption Events: These most often take place on the weekends. The shift will require great people-skills, dog-handling, and possible transport from and back to the shelter. We can provide training on adoption forms/paperwork. We have regular off-site adoption events at Petsmart River/Orange Grove.

Dog Training: Volunteers can choose which dog they’d like to handle from the list of dogs that are on list for training or recommend a dog they feel needs training from the adoptable dogs. You must be able to commit to ALL classes (once a week for 8 weeks) as well as working with the dog 3-4x a week. If you are not able to commit to all of this, but would still like to participate when you can, you are welcome to attend classes when you can with a prior RSVP. RSVP by emailing volunteer@pimapawsforlife.org.

Special Event/Fundraisers: Check in often at FB page https://www.facebook.com/PimaPawsForLife/events

Transport/pick up dogs from alter surgery: We have dogs scheduled M-F (not every week) that need a lift to the Vet and back. We know the schedules a week in advance.

Office Support: You must have great customer service skills, conduct tours, be comfortable standing, sitting, bending, lifting, getting dogs in and out of their kennel, washing dog bowls/toys, putting dirty laundry in the washing machine/dryer, sweeping/mopping the office floor. There are also dogs that live in the office that need regular time outside as well. All these things may not be required of you, but we are looking for flexible people who are willing to pitch in where they are needed.

Yard Work: Please wear sturdy closed toe shoes and bring your own gloves. Yard work usually involves weeding but may include anything from trimming trees and root removal to fixing/putting up fencing. Anytime during regular volunteer hours that fit your schedule (just be aware of the weather!)

Junior Volunteers: Dog Food and Wishlist Drives, Story write-ups, Fundraise, 9+ can help socialize cats and play with dogs in the play yard, help do laundry and wash dishes. Junior volunteers 13+ can also walk a dog appropriate in size with an adult, Junior volunteers 14+ can help at adoption events, and 15+ can walk with guardian’s permission.

Mission Statement

To partner with our community in creating a no-kill Pima County. To find loving homes for every treatable and adoptable animal in our care. To collaborate with other local animal welfare agencies to broaden the safety net for homeless animals in our community.

Description

Pima Paws For Life (PPFL), is a 501c3 private adoption guarantee (no kill) animal shelter in Tucson, AZ. PPFL takes in sick and injured animals, with a focus on pulling from Pima Animal Care Center along with PACC shelter diversions and a few rural shelters, to help reduce the euthanasia rate of dogs and cats with treatable conditions. PPFL treats animals with upper respiratory infections (URI's) also known as kennel cough, valley fever, pneumonia, distemper, parvo, injuries, and behavioral issues as well as many other problems. Once healthy and cleared by the vet, the animals then become available for adoption.

By partnering with the citizens of our community and other local shelters and rescue groups, Pima Paws For Life is dedicated to building a No Kill Pima County- a community where pets are no longer destroyed just because they are homeless. Pima Paws For Life believes that every animal's life has value- every life matters.

We cannot make this a reality for the shelter pets of Pima County without the support of our generous and compassionate community.
