Volunteer will lead lessons that introduces students to the concept of globalization as it relates to resources and careers and the need for students to be entrepreneurial in their thinking to meet the requirements of business worldwide. Through engaging activities, students learn about STEM skills, resources and job skills. JA provides training so you are comfortable visiting the classroom. We also provide you with a kit, each kit contains all the materials that you need to successfully conduct your JA classes. There is a step by step guide in each kit that will walk you through how to facilitate each program lesson. The detailed script directors volunteers through the activity and discussion. No matter the grade, the lesson plans are structured similarly. The time commitment is minimal comparted to the significant impact you make. For as little as an hour a week, you can make a difference in the lives of young people in your community. The classroom commitment for the elementary school grades are five to six 30 to 45 minute lessons. The volunteer will need to contact their classroom teacher to establish the visiting schedule - Typically, at an agreed day & time on consecutive weeks. Before visiting the classroom, JA suggests volunteers spends a minimum of 30 minutes reviewing and preparing for their lesson. JA staff is available to answer your questions or make suggestions pertaining to your volunteer assignment.

Description
Junior Achievement (JA), with the support of community volunteers and dedicated educational leaders, helps to inspire and empower students to believe in themselves, showing them they can make a difference in the world. JA extends education so that kids have a deeper conceptual understanding of what is necessary to contribute to the success of their future, opening their minds to their potential and preparing them for the world of work.
JA programs correlate to state standards in social studies, English, and mathematics, and to Common Core State Standards. All of our programs are session-specific, student-friendly materials are included to increase student interaction.
It's not an easy task but we continue to impact the lives of young people in over 55 communities statewide, reaching out to over 15,125 students across Alaska.
