About Target Hunger
Location:
1260 Shotwell Street, Houston, TX 77020, US
Mission Statement
The mission of Target Hunger is to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the Houston neighborhoods we serve. Our vision is a Houston where no one goes hungry and everyone can provide food for themselves and their families.
Description
Target Hunger serves thousands of vulnerable households whose residents suffer from food insecurity each month. In 2021, Target Hunger distributed the equivalent of over 1.3 million meals to children, families, and seniors to help alleviate hunger in Houston’s impoverished northeast and east region.
This distribution of nutritious food is accomplished through multiple food pantries, educational food fairs, an extensive home delivery program, summer break food programs for children, mobile distribution sites, a growing community partner program, and emergency food assistance.
Target Hunger’s Willie H. & Gladys R. Goffney Community Garden located in Kashmere Gardens and our Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Shotwell Garden located at our main warehouse that welcomes volunteer groups and produces thousands of pounds of fresh produce.
Our volunteers provide an invaluable service to our clients and organization. With several opportunities available, from assisting in our warehouse to working in our community gardens, we consistently seek outstanding individuals to help us carry out our mission to the community. We welcome anyone who wants to volunteer, including individuals, social groups, religious organizations, students, and corporations.
