Our Grassroots team is dedicated to organizing students and volunteers to take direct action within their communities for global green solutions to our planet's environmental problems.
Our team is comprised of:
Field Organizing Team - Field Organizers are based in several cities across the country working with volunteers, building organizational power, securing relationships with influential allies, generating media coverage, and mobilizing grassroots support in their region.
National Activist Network - This team empowers students and other activists and gives them tools, info, and training to get involved with Greenpeace and take action in their local communities.
Frontline Campaigns - The Frontline Team is our fundraising canvass team that talks to hundreds of people every day, engaging them in Greenpeace campaigns and gives them the opportunity to take action on the street by making a phone call, to signing a petition or writing a postcard.
Greenpeace Semester - The Greenpeace Semester is a trimester program that trains students in grassroots organizing, campaign strategy, non-violent direct action, and media.
Quit Coal Activist Program - The coal activist training program works with the New Organizing Institute to pilot a training model aimed at developing leaders. Greenpeace’s Quit Coal campaign is a "living laboratory" to track progress and effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
The Grassroots Administrative Intern will assist these programs in various different ways:
- Providing administrative support for 30+ grassroots organizers including reviewing expense reports and working directly with the Finance department
- Writing monthly campaign reports and an internal newsletter
- Event organizing - assisting in logistics for national and regional trainings and other team events
- Updating the internal wiki page
- Collaborating with organizing managers to track team data on a weekly basis
- Working once a month from our equipment warehouse in Landover, MD to assist with shipping supplies to field offices
- Managing team materials (tracking, inventory, shipping, etc)
- Assisting with activist recruitment and hiring efforts
- Research
- Monthly Data Compilation
- Data entry
- Occasional travel
- DC-area campaign work, as applicable
- Other various administrative tasks
Skills You May Learn and Practice:

Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong online research skills
- Strong organizational, budget management, and project management skills
- Comfortable with excel and web databases
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Creative and a sense of adventure
- Strong attention to detail and organized
- Reliable
- Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to prioritize and manage various tasks with competing deadlines
- Self-learner and self-starter
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Be able to take projects and run with them
- Work 25-40 hours per week with one day being Tuesday or Wednesday (Wednesdays preferred)
- Dedicated to helping save the world one expense report at a time
- Familiarity with grassroots organizing and training a plus
- Commitment to non-violence as a means of affecting change
- Commitment to protecting the planet and building a green and peaceful future
