Project Read seeks to prevent and alleviate adult illiteracy in Utah County through one-on-one tutoring services that help individuals improve their reading and writing skills sufficiently to meet personal goals, function well in society, and become more productive citizens.

As a small non-profit organization, Project Read relies heavily on the cooperation of community volunteers and other organizations that serve adults with low literacy skills. We are always in need of volunteer tutors to help us meet the needs of the students we serve!

Volunteer tutors need to...

• Be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma.
  
• Speak, read, and write English fluently.
  
• Commit to twice-weekly 1.5 hour tutoring sessions (3 hours a week total), plus any lesson preparation and travel time.
  
• Commit to a minimum of four months service. Six months is preferable, to provide stability for your student.
  
• Attend a 30-minute New Tutor Orientation.
  
• Attend a 4-hour training session and bi-monthly skill enhancement workshops.
  
• Pay a FULLY REFUNDABLE $20 book fee for any teaching materials you may need to check out for your student.
