Volunteer Activities: Volunteers will help in the housing and employment resource center of the mens shelter. We will assist, educate and support MSC guests in developing the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to find and maintain employment and permanent housing.
Key Responsibilities: Work 1-on-1 with guests to:
• Search for housing
• Develop resumes and cover letters
• Apply for jobs and provide support and guidance for interviews
• Assist with getting an ID card and/or birth certificate
• Set-up email accounts, teach e-mail basics
• Explain financial matters (e.g. deposits for utilities, down payments, etc.); fill out rental applications and provide guidance with understanding lease agreements
• Connect guests to community supports: help with navigating bus routes; (food pantries, nonprofit job training programs, etc.)
• Be a friend, build trust, listen and support men experiencing homelessness and help navigate and point them toward solutions
Qualifications and Skills Required: 'Real world' work and life experience, excellent oral and written communication skills; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Internet navigation and e-mail experience required; must be patient and motivated to help others; college education and management experience a plus, but not required. Desired - knowledge of human resources and hiring practices.

We help homeless families, guide at-risk youth, tutor disadvantaged children, feed the hungry, care for our environment and so much more. Our volunteers address our community's needs through direct service. Hands On Charlotte offers a variety of meaningful volunteer projects that benefits the citizens of Charlotte. We provide volunteers with flexible volunteer opportunities to create positive change. We simplify the process by organizing and promoting dozens of opportunities each month.
