The urgent mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP), macular degeneration, Usher syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. The VisionWalk program is the signature fundraising event of the Foundation. Since its inception in the Spring of 2006, the VisionWalk has grown to 50 cities and has raised over $32 million to fund sight-saving research. The VisionWalks are also a fun day to spend with friends and family as well as build awareness for retinal degenerative diseases.

On Walk day, Event Managers need volunteers to ensure the event is a success. Some of the tasks include registration, distributing t-shirts, handing out food and refreshments, helping with children’s activities and cheering walkers on. Volunteers are provided with t-shirts, food and refreshments.

The urgent mission of The Foundation Fighting Blindness, Inc. (FFB) is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP), macular degeneration, Usher Syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases.
Description
- Over nine million Americans of every age and race suffer vision loss from these blinding diseases.
The Foundation has funded thousands of research studies at hundreds of prominent institutions.
The Foundation funds leading-edge research in promising areas such as genetics, gene therapy, retinal cell transplantation, artificial retinal implants, and pharmaceutical and nutritional therapies.
Since its inception in 1971, The Foundation has raised over $240 million. RP and Usher syndrome are inherited diseases commonly diagnosed during childhood or young adulthood. RP causes severe vision loss leading to legal and/or complete blindness. Children with Usher syndrome are born with varying degrees of deafness and later develop RP.
Macular degeneration (AMD), has inherited risks, is characterized by a progressive loss of central vision, and is the leading cause of legal blindness in adults over age 55.
The Foundation has over 30 volunteer-led groups across the US. These dedicated volunteers raise funds, increase public awareness, and provide support to their communities.
FFB is ranked as a "Top-Rated" charity by the American Institute of Philanthropy.
The Foundation Fighting Blindness was named one of Worth Magazine's "100 Best Charities."
