The CA Highway Patrol Retired Senior Volunteer Program (CHP-RSVP) is looking for senior citizens who want to serve their community through safety and service programs of crime prevention and education. Volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of four hours a week performing a variety of duties either at our office or in the field patrolling communities as well as other assignments. General Office Support Volunteer: General office duties, assisting public relations, basic computer skills are extremely helpful, friendly, out-going people skills, willingness to learn. Training and orientations will be provided. Types of office tasks: sort & file citations, set VIN appointments, answer the phones, keep files organized, fill accident report requests, shred papers/documents, purge old photographs, make copies, greet customers at front counter, scheduling. Telephone System: Set up mail boxes for new officers, maintain extensions and phone assignments throughout the office; prepare new interoffice phone directory; distribute updated phone listings throughout the building. Because RSVP member have access to confidential and sensitive information, all applicants are subject to a background screening process. Locations: San Mateo County and Santa Clara County. We serve all of San Mateo County and the cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View. Palo Alto, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills in Santa Clara County.

RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, pre-service orientation, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
