ORGANIZATION: RSVP of San Mateo & Northern Santa Clara Counties

Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a premier provider of services to people with low vision and blindness. Vista Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired emphasizes the dignity of each client by providing services which enable individuals to function independently with a high quality of life. Direct Service Volunteers help clients in the community on a 1:1 basis. Duties may entail reading many types of materials such as books, mail, magazines, instruction manuals, newspapers. Document organization and support include writing letters, filing, filling out and organization of paperwork. Computer support assisting the client with everything from keyboard work to surfing the internet. Friendly visits social interaction with the client through conversation. Errands and Transportation: accompany the client on errands near the home, such as to the grocery store, post office and pharmacy. Have a exercise partner to walk around the block, hiking at a favorite park,or a tandem bike ride. Geographic locations available for direct service: All of San Mateo County, including Pacifica, Half Moon Bay; also, Santa Clara County. Skills required: literate, trustworthy, kind, respectful, responsible, stays within the parameters provided by supervisor.

RSVP is administered by the Corporation for National & Community Service, the federal agency that supports service and volunteering programs to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement. We serve all of San Mateo County and the cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View. Palo Alto, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills in Santa Clara County.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, pre-service orientation, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
