ORGANIZATION: The ALS Association - DC/MD/VA Chapter

The ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter is seeking two energetic, highly motivated volunteerwho are looking to gain experience in data entry and office administration in a non-profit environment. Hours are flexible.

The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. The ALS Association covers all the bases -- research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy -- in providing help and hope to those facing the disease. The DC/MD/VA Chapter was founded in 1991 to serve the needs of those living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and their caregivers.

Our Database and Donor Relations Manager a quirky, hard-working individual who are looking for support expanding departmental services to better serve our organization, donors, and the community.

We will provide:
1. An opportunity to hone your office skills

3. Training on how to use our two database systems (The Raiser’s Edge and Convio/Luminate Online), both nationally recognized programs for non-profit organizations.
4. Potential training on how to use the database reporting tool ETO Results

Responsibilities

Duties will include: data entry into two databases, filing, letter creation and mailings, assist with creation of training program and policy and procedures manual. Opportunities to learn report and query building in The Raiser’s Edge as well, depending on length of stay.

Requirements

You will provide the following skill set:
1. Computer skills - The ability to type quickly and accurately as well as the ability to use Gmail, Microsoft Excel and Word
2. Ability to file accurately alphabetically and/or numerically
3. Ability to understand and follow instructions
4. Flexibility in prioritizing projects and the ability to work under firm deadlines
5. Effective communication skills
6. Excellent organizational skills
7. Strong Interpersonal skills
8. Attention to detail
9. Experience or knowledge writing instructional manuals is a plus
10. Must be able to pass a background check

Leading the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. The DC/MD/VA is based in Rockville, MD with an office in Richmond, VA.

Description

The ALS Association - DC/MD/VA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of people living with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis a.k.a. Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and their families in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The ALS Association National Office and the ALS Association - DC/MD/VA Chapter operate under a shared mission: to support people living with ALS and to leave no stone unturned in the search for a cure. The ALS Association - DC/MD/VA is currently serving almost 700 people living with ALS and their families. These services include assistive technology devices, social worker visits, medical equipment loan closet, transportation grants, and many other services. All of the Chapter's services are provided free of charge to the families.
