As part of our continuing endeavor to foster the creativity and imagination of young people, the Rebecca Everlene Trust Company will soon host the "Lollipop Kids Spectaculaire Writing Workshop and Science Adventure". Childhood should represent a time of magic and wonder for children; a time where no idea is too outlandish or fantastical. On this occasion, we invite children to let go of their boundaries and join the ranks of Lewis Carroll, Roald Dahl, and J.R.R Tolkien; to create magical worlds out of nothing more than mere words. The event, scheduled for 7/19/2015 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm, can be made possible with your help. We need a few dynamic performers like you to do a reading of Roald Dahl’s 'The Witches’. The reading should be interactive and be anywhere from 20-60 minutes long. Programmatic requirements for the day will call for you to be joyful, give a little background about the author of the piece, and sign autographs. The only downside is that we will want you to wear a costume, and you’ll work with an extra kind event planner. But, the kids will be ever so grateful for your time and to have had an opportunity to hear such a fantastic reading. For our Wizard of Oz themed event, participants will: Experience the thrill of wonder by participating in an improvisation of Dahl’s The Witches by YOU, and learn about his amazing life. Receive electronic bracelets that will test them on science, math and vocabulary to help them prepare for standardized testing. Create their own art pieces by working with Alison Selivon, owner of Designs by Alison, to create authentic thinking caps from fabric and other fantastic items. Strengthen their critical thinking skills by observing, interpreting, evaluating, associating, and comparing illustrations, while writing a short story based on the artwork that they saw, which will be published and given to them in a clothbound book with gold writing. Meet the President of the Chicago Journalists Association, Allen Rafalson, and hear excerpts from the adventurous 'Santa Claus Trial’. Attend the science workshop with Robert Summers, owner of 2Rinfinity, and Mechanical Engineer Chris Goebbert where they will learn more about viscosity, physics, sublimation, and chemical reactions. Work with a Bio-Rad Science Ambassador that will guide kids through a DNA extraction experiment, collecting their own DNA and providing them with a keepsake ornament containing their unique precipitated DNA.
