Mission Statement
To promote a strong, just, and diverse local food system to all residents of Northern Colorado through direct agricultural experiences, education, and advocacy.
Description
1. Garden Time partners Colorado State University students and at-risk youth in horticulture therapy classes through the Campus Corps Service Learning program. In 2014, TGP received a grant to expand this program to work with The Family Center/La Familia.
2.Urban Food Outreach provides the materials, the education and the volunteers to install and maintain community gardens in low-income areas.
3.Food Finders coordinates and picks up and distributes unwanted/excess produce by bike from farmers, gardeners and grocers to nonprofits that feed the hungry.
4.TGP University provides low-cost classes on gardening, cooking, and nutrition. TGP manages a large educational garden and hoop house, holding 20 workshops each season and hosting volunteer hours weekly. In addition, TGP works with the nonprofit Sproutin’ Up to host an 8-week gardening and nutrition apprenticeship program with at-risk youth at the garden.
5.The Growing Project Youth Corps works with teens ages 15-17 referred from the diversion program from The Center for Family Outreach. For 8 weeks, participants work at the educational garden, take cooking classes, receive horticultural therapy, and design and implement their own food related community service project.
Also, TGP provides The Family Center with technical assistance and programming for their garden.
