Heartland Hospice has several open volunteer opportunities, and our next training class begins March 10. There are 4 sessions and new volunteers should be able to attend all 4. They are May 12, 14, 26 & 28 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. located at our business office 931 E. 86th Street Suite 208 Indianapolis.

Heartland Hospice offers many volunteer roles... Friendly Visitor- Visit patients in facilities and/or homes, offer companionship and a listening ear. Provide social and sensory stimulation. Some volunteers specialize in specific interventions such as: Spiritual support, Comfort Touch, Music enrichment, Art enrichment, & Pet visitor. Respite Provider- Sit with patient to provide caregiver a break, provide occasional assistance with errands, light housekeeping. Homemaker- Offer assistance with light housekeeping, meal preparation, and errands. Vigil Visitor- Sit vigil with patients in their last days and hours of life. Offer sacred presence to patient and relief support to family. Office Support -Filing, create patient information packets, organize and inventory office and medical supplies, maintain common areas, audit charts, assist with newsletters/mailings.

The mission of Heartland Hospice is to provide quality hospice care to patients with a limited life expectancy, as well as, support to their caregivers. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced through palliative and specialized supportive care designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patients and caregivers.
Description
Hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of the Medical Director, Primary Physician, Nurses, Social Workers, Chaplains, as well as Bereavement Coordinators and Volunteers. Care is delivered to patients either in their own home or extended care facility. Heartland Hospice strives to provide care to all who are eligible and need hospice care irrespective of ability to pay.
