Fundraiser "Share to Care" Will Help Provide Free Resources for Caregivers

Through Guiding Lights Caregiver Support Center

RALEIGH, N.C. - Guiding Lights Caregiver Support Center will host its fifth annual "Share to Care" fundraiser.

When: Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 7:00-11:30pm

Where: The Cypress Manor at Cary, 1040 Buck Jones Road, Raleigh

What: The event will feature a Chef Challenge, live auction, music and dancing

The executive chefs from 7 local retirement communities will compete in an exciting culinary challenge - they represent Atria Oakridge, Brookdale Senior Living, Holiday Retirement, SearStone, Sunrise Senior Living, Waltonwood Senior Living, and Woodland Terrace. The competition will be judged by three premier local chefs for the "Silver Spoon" award and by the community attendees for the "People’s Choice" award.

Guiding Lights assists family and professional caregivers and care recipients who are living with one or more disabling, acute and/or chronic illnesses by helping them advocate for their caregiving needs. The organization creates individualized care plans and connects families to appropriate service providers, with the goal of helping them obtain practical, affordable, applicable and loving support. Guiding Lights provides information, referral, education and support. The majority of services are made available to family caregivers at no charge.

"Share to Care is critical to the operation of our organization," said Nicole Bruno, Executive Director of Guiding Lights, "this event is great way to have fun while raising funds to serve caregivers and their loved ones."

Description

North Carolina: The leading caregiver support center in North Carolina, Guiding Lights is like an adult day care center which provides the most reasonable long term assistance alternative in the medical and social model. This caregiver support center offers a home away from home through providing a safe and expedient setting where seniors can develop self esteem through keeping socially, emotionally and physically active.

In North Carolina, there are about 1.3 million people over the age of 65 live in North Carolina, and the number is expected to reach nearly 2.4 million by 2032 (American Community Survey, 2008-2012). In five years the state will have more residents over 60 than, fewer than 18 years. By 2030, one in four North Carolinians will be 60 or older. There are 170,000 older adults had Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of dementia in 2009; by 2030 the number is projected to increase to close to 300,000. (American Community Survey, 2005-2009). There are also 840,000 caregivers provide 900 million care giving hours for every year, with a market worth of $8.9 billion this according to National Family Caregivers Association and Family Caregiver Alliance.

Guiding Light caregiver center serve customers, who need special care, have a serious condition like dementia, Alzheimer’s, seizure disorder, trauma, developmental disabilities, brain injury, autism, heart failure, sclerosis stroke and many more. Alzheimer’s affects about 5 million people aging 65 and older and considered the 6 th leading cause of disease in the United States.

The main objective of Guiding Light is to avoid social isolation, ease caregivers and to enhance the superiority of life of the seniors in a safe and warm setting. Their highly educated employee can pass treatments and offer incontinence, wound and memory care.

The Guiding light activities and services take account of fitness programs, yoga, aerobics, sports lessons, music healing, physical, pet therapy, speech and occupational therapy, crafts, arts, games as well as field trips. Guiding Light has currently implemented a state of the art software technology equipped toward seniors which empowers them in fitness, cognitive and simulation activities.

Guiding Lights is situated in Raleigh, North Carolina and serve Orange, Wake as well as Durham Countries as weill as the surrounding areas.
