The Litter Prevention program consists on the implementation of a variety of strategies, which aim to reduce the amount of litter on coastal zones within the City of Miami Beach and Miami and surrounding Biscayne Bay areas. Commitment: minimum of 10 hours/week Project Length: on going, however a minimum commitment of 6 months is requested.

JOB DESCRIPTION : We are currently seeking an experienced intern to coordinate ECOMB's Adopt a Beach Program, as well as our monthly shoreline cleanup events (beach, dunes, islands, canals and parks) in partnership with the City of Miami Beach, City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, schools and local businesses.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate monthly cleanup events with City of Miami Beach, schools, businesses Organize shoreline cleanup events and boat transportation, when necessary Participate, whenever possible, on the cleanup activities Coordinate event schedule with web manager Update contact database for Miami-Dade Schools, Non profits, Colleges and Universities (Key Clubs, Ecology Clubs, etc.) Create Press Releases for local media, respond to emails and phone calls regarding cleanups Coordinate and assist in the execution of the Adopt a Beach program Coordinate and assist in the execution of the Corporate Sponsored Shoreline Clean Up The ideal candidate would possess an environmental science background, as well as knowledge of Mac computer systems, Word and Excel, etc. This is not a paid position; however, due to the rapid growth of ECOMB, future compensation could be feasible. In addition to interacting with the local community, other environmental non-profits, professionals in the green industry, as well as local political leaders, the hands-on work experience will be a great addition to anyone's resume. Our office is located in South Beach at our new Miami Beach Center for the Environment. We are looking for assertive, motivated individuals, university/college students, and environmental activists interested in getting involved with one of the most prominent GREEN environmental non-profits in Miami-Dade County.

ECOMB is a Florida 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit volunteer-based corporation founded in 1994 in the City of Miami Beach. It's commitment is supported by the development and implementation of various programs in an effort to achieve the following objectives: To reduce the amount of litter on county beaches, waterways, islands and wetlands; To increase county residential and business recycling rates; To preserve and restore our sensitive ecosystems, such as the near shore coral reefs, beach dunes, islands, mangroves, and Biscayne Bay waters. To encourage community members to adopt new lifestyle practices that are more environmentally sustainable.
