Cover topics including turning the computer on and off, naming the parts of the computer, using the mouse, typing, and using the internet for basic research.

A volunteer in a Basic computer class needs to be very patient with adult learners. Most of the students have never used a computer before.

A volunteer needs to follow the lead of the teacher. During explicit teaching times, a volunteer can circulate around the class and help students follow along with the handout being discussed. When students are at the computer, a volunteer will assist by helping students follow directions, encourage students, show on the screen what they should click on. A volunteer has to be careful not to take control of the mouse or do things for students, but is a constant motivator and support for students.
