ORGANIZATION: Rockville Consortium for Science

  • 15 people are interested

The Rockville Consortium for Science sponsors Rockville Science Day every year with the support of the City of Rockville, the Rockville Science Center, and Montgomery College. We will have over 90 exhibitors from the community, local businesses, and academic institutions. There will be science activities for the whole family including chemistry, rocket launch, robotics, water conservation, birds and reptiles. We expect to have over 4,000 visitors. This is our 26th year. We need volunteers to help setup, work with exhibitors, control the crowd, and clean up at the end of the event.

Mission Statement

The Rockville Consortium for Science was established to increase understanding of science within the Rockville community. We plan to establish a community science center which will become a focus for the community's scientific resources. It will be used to increase science literacy and encourage students to follow careers in science. We want to communicate the conviction that science is understandable, excellence in science is prized by the community, and exploring the frontiers of science is a profoundly satisfying experience. We also conduct an annual Rockville Science Day , in which local exhibitors provide fun and focus on science.

Description

The Rockville Consortium for Science is a private, non-profit educational organization. Its goals are: (1) to increase science literacy in the general public; (2) to encourage young people to develop and maintain their natural interest in science; (3) to help people understand the scientific principles underlying environmental concerns, technological development, and global systems; and (4) to establish a science center that will serve as an educational resource for the public.
