At Breaker we believe that ingenuity is a learned skill that can be taught. The demands of the innovation economy call on all of us to reframe how we learn, how we teach, and how we work. Breaker teaches educators and students how to design innovative solutions to real-world problems and close the gap between education and employment. We use local, national, and global challenges to introduce participants to a design process that lends immediacy and relevancy to learning. Participants exit Breaker with new skills and abilities; products and services result from Breaker ready to be developed further. Founder and TED Senior Fellow, Dr. Juliette LaMontagne began testing the Breaker model in 2011. Since that time, a collaboration with Stanford University’s d.school brought challenges to New York, Detroit, Portland, and Boise to foster innovation. We are searching for a passionate excecutive volunteer to join our Board of Directors. You will: Serve as an adviser to the CEO and assist with implementation of the strategic plan Approve Breaker’s annual budget, audit reports, and business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities Review metrics for evaluating impact and assess performance and results delivered Participate in meetings on a regular basis, and at special events as able; act as an ambassador for Breaker Board members will consider Breaker a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that Breaker can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, we expect to have 100 percent of Board members make an annual contribution.
