JA in a Day

Junior Achievement of Northern New England empowers young people to own their economic success. From kindergarten through twelfth grade, Junior Achievement's programs provide financial literacy, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurship skills to students through age appropriate lessons. Junior Achievement's programs are taught by trained volunteer role models from the community - including business professionals, parents, college students, and you! - using professionally designed and rigorously evaluated curriculum materials. Junior Achievement's programs are easy to implement and are often described as "turn key." As a JA Volunteer you will receive ongoing support from the JA staff throughout the program.

This specific program works with elementary school students participating in an Afterschool Program on Tuesdays. The commitment would be five (5) one hour visits.

Mission Statement

The mission of Junior Achievement (JA) is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA helps to prepare young people for the real world by teaching skills in financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship. We reach our goals using trained, business and community volunteers to deliver curricula, and share personal and professional experiences with students. The hallmark of Junior Achievement efforts, these mentors inspire students by transforming JA lessons into truly relevant messages that connect what is learned in the classroom to actual life-situations.

Description

JA Worldwide is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about financial literacy, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurship through experiential, hands-on programs.

Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.

JA’s unique approach allows volunteers from the community to deliver our curriculum while sharing their experiences with students. Embodying the heart of JA, our 382,637 classroom volunteers transform the key concepts of our lessons into a message that inspires and empowers students to believe in themselves, showing them they can make a difference in the world.

In 2012-2013 Junior Achievement of Northern New England reached over 38,000 students through the hard work of over 1,800 volunteers.
