ORGANIZATION: Homeless Garden Project

Educational Visits at the Farm

We have two major volunteer opportunities at this time: in our downtown store and at the farm, and we'd love to have you volunteer with us in either or both places! Our downtown store is open Friday-Sunday this time of year. Ideally we are looking for volunteers who can make a weekly or bimonthly commitment. The store is located downtown between the Museum of Art and History and Pacific Ave (in the Cooper Breezeway). Orientations are required and are held weekly on Fridays at 4pm--please contact Keren if you'd like to attend one. We are also in need of volunteer Greeters at our downtown store on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during our peak hours, between 1pm and 4:30pm. You can volunteer for this entire shift or choose a shorter shift between these times depending on your preference. The Greeter stands at the entrance to the Cooper Breezeway off of Pacific and typically hands out lavender to the public and lets people know about our project. Our sales increase significantly when we have a Greeter , so it's a huge help for us. All the proceeds from our downtown store go directly to supporting our programs on the farm. (You can also sign up for this role with a friend and volunteer together!)
The farm has drop-in volunteer hours (come and leave when it's convenient for you ):

  • Thursday/Friday: 10am-2pm (lunch provided)

  • Saturday/Sunday: 10am-4pm
  • Rain cancels farm days
Everyone must come with closed-toe shoes, and we recommend that everyone also wear sunscreen, a hat, layers, and bring a water bottle. The farm is located on Shaffer Road at Delaware Ave. on the west side of Santa Cruz near Natural Bridges State Park and the Long Marine Lab. The 3 and 20 bus lines stop nearby. CLICK HERE for a map . When you arrive, complete a waiver and sign in at the red farm stand. After that, a staff member will get you started on that day's projects.

In addition, we are also looking for volunteers to:
  • Assist with data entry, network administration, website design and hardware troubleshooting
  • Join our Fundraising and Events Planning Committee
  • Represent the Homeless Garden Project by tabling at events
  • Be our office handy-person (paint walls, fix leaks and build shelves, etc.

Feel free to reach out to Keren with any questions!
