Description
Bay Area Habitat for Humanity-Houston, Inc. (BAHFH) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to make adequate, affordable housing a matter of conscience and action. BAHFH has been building safe, decent, affordable homes for hard-working families earning 60% or less than our service area’s median income for 20 years. Over the past several years BAHFH has worked throughout the Houston Bay Area to stabilize and revitalize older neighborhoods by building new homes on vacant lots, increasing the values of these properties and putting them back on local tax rolls. The homes are built for responsible, hard-working families, increasing the stability of constructive members of society living in Southeast Harris and Galveston Counties.
The Habitat for Humanity program is designed to invest in the development, prosperity and self-sufficiency of our homeowners and their families. BAHFH requires 300 hours of "sweat equity" from each Habitat homeowner when building their home. These hours spent by homeowners and family members instill pride of ownership and workmanship in the construction of their homes. Homeowners also go through financial training to help them better understand their mortgages and general finances.
