Many urban youth struggle in their first year of college. As a Summer Bridge Mentor, you will be matched with a first-generation, Denver area high school graduate in need of extra assistance during their transition to college.

Our Program

Goodwill Summer Bridge Mentoring provides a place for incoming college freshman to connect with mentors from the community who have successfully graduated from college and help them transition from high school to college. Topics of discussion will include self-advocating, time management, budgeting, on campus resources, safety, and healthy decision making. Students meet with their mentors in a group setting weekly for nine weeks (June and July) and then students and mentors stay connected for at least the student’s first year of college.

Following the summer group meetings, mentors will provide much needed support through phone and email correspondence with their student throughout their freshman year.

Students become a part of the program through an application process and can be nominated by school staff, teachers, counselors, or can self-nominate. Consistent participation is required throughout the summer.
