In-Home ESL Tutoring
Organization |
Description
Do you want to learn about another culture and help someone adjust to life in Chicago? Become an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor to a recently arrived refugee! This program connects volunteers to refugee families. Volunteers go to the same refugee home every week for one-on-one or small group English practice. Students live primarily in the neighborhoods of Rogers Park, Edgewater, and Albany Park.
Tutors use practical, everyday activities to help refugees learn both a new culture and language. Free ESL tutor training is provided, and a background check is required for all volunteers. Time commitment is two hours per week for three months.
Skills
- A willingness to overcome language and cultural barriers. Attend a free 12-hour ESL tutor training.
