Match 1

We need men, women, couples and families who are ready to say YES to making a big impact in the life of a child in Elkhart County. The volunteer mentors in our program are mature, responsible adult who wants to enrich a child's life by sharing their time and talents on a regular basis. The volunteer ("Big") and the child ("Little") generally see each other 2-4 times a month for 1-5 hours.

Getting together is a great time for both the Big and the Little. It doesn't require a special occasion or expensive activities; just a few hours every month to share the simple things you already do. Things like shooting hoops, playing a board game, sharing a pizza, going to the park, or just hanging out and talking. What matters most to children isn't the activies, but the fact that they had a caring adult in their lives. When Littles someone to confide in and to look up to, they do better in school, build more confidence in themselves, and are more likely to avoid risky behaviors like underage drinking and skipping school.

Each mentor must complete a through screening process that includes a layered background check, personal references, an in-person interview and an orientation/training session. Once approved, matches are made based on personality, interests and location to ensure that the match has the best possible chance of becoming a lasting friendship.
