Field & Research Project Opportunities

New Nature and Retreat Center needs Field and Research experts in a variety of areas. Please share this email with friends or family who may want to lend their knowledge to support a new educational project.

The City of Plano is opening a new Nature and Retreat Center at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. The Nature and Retreat Center will include exhibits showcasing the preserve's past and present. Volunteers with the below expertise are needed to assist staff in bringing facts to life!

Volunteer Position Descriptions:

Park History Researcher: Compile information about Oak Point Park's history, including the pre-colonization era, pioneer/settler era, agricultural era, and modern
era. Provide this information to staff in a concise format. Background in Plano and
Collin County a plus. Skills Needed: Volunteer will need strong research and writing
skills to create interesting, informative, and concise narratives and the ability to work within a deadline.

Property/Land Records Researcher: Compile an accurate history about Oak Point Park's land ownership from Peter's Colony land grants to modern day. A background in Plano and Collin County land development is a plus. Skills Needed: Volunteer will need strong research and writing skills to create interesting, informative, and concise narratives and the ability to work within a deadline.

Geology/Hydrology Researcher: Seeking an expert who can lend their knowledge by compiling information about Oak Point Park's past and present Geology/Hydrology, including how it has changed over the years. Skills Needed: Strong background in Geology and Hydrology. Good research and writing skills with the ability to create interesting, informative, and concise narratives and the ability to work within a deadline.


Photograph Researcher and Compiler: A detail-orientated person is needed to research, collect, and compile quality digital images/photographs of Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. Images should be suitable for exhibit/display and show the changing seasons as well as the natural, historic, and interesting features of the property. Skills Needed: Volunteer should have a good working knowledge of photography (film and digital) and be able to identify and select quality images suitable for display/exhibit. The person chosen should have a computer with internet access and web knowledge as well as good communication skills and the ability to obtain permission to use images. Must have the ability to work within a deadline.

Exhibit Researcher and Information Compiler: Write and edit copy into a cohesive and interesting narrative of topics related to Oak Point Park such as history, animals, plants, geography, hydrology, and points of interest. Skills Needed: Excellent writing and editing skills. Must have the ability to compile and write interesting, informative and concise narratives and work within a deadline.
