Pasco Youth Initiativeannounces a free contest to promote peace and healthy relationships at home, school and in the workplace. This free art contest and expo is open to the public, Pasco County high school students are encouraged to submit original artwork between January 1 and March 1, 2015 through online upload atwww.choiceofdirection.com. Artistic expression in all mediums will be accepted via hard copy, photo, video, audio, text or digital file. Go to www.pascoyouthinitiative.org for more information and official rules.

The public is invited and encouraged to judge entries by posting one vote per category online at www.choiceofdirection.com. Finalists will be chosen based on public voting to identify the most popular submissions, then a panel of judges (assigned by PYI) will cast their votes in each category based on creativity, content and execution. One overall grand prize winner and 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place winners in each category will be announced at an art expo on March 28 at Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Boulevard, New Port Richey, FL 34652, from 1-4pm.

Finalists will be invited to perform dance, music and readings at the expo. Selected visual arts will also be on exhibition and available for sale. The expo will be followed by a celebrity appearance from Quinton Aaron and a showing of The Blind Side movie from 4-6pm. Quinton Aaron, co-star of the movie, says, "I have been bullied since I was a kid and wish that someone would have shown me what to do or had stood up for me. Now is the time for all of us to pull together to see what our personal role is in putting a stop to violence."

Mission Statement

We strive to be a resource for Pasco residents who need assistance with mental health access, funding and/or education. We are working to reduce the burden that compromised mental health places on employers, community organizations and the local government.

Description

We are here to help. We provide:

  • voucher programs for counseling, mental health medications and testing
  • community education and guest speakers
  • professional trainings
  • community resources

VOUCHER PROGRAM:

We provide up to $360 - paid directly to providers - for individuals to receive mental health evaluation, counseling, therapy, medication or transportation to appointments before the need becomes critical.

EDUCATION:

We routinely host professional conferences offering the latest information and tools along with CEs (continuing education credits) for mental health professionals. We have expanded community presence to notify the public of our programs and educate individuals and families about warning signs and how to get help. We also publish and distribute informational booklets and resource guides.

COLLABORATION:

We are actively involved in community meetings to assist in creating a system of care through collaboration, thus improving quality of life for individuals and families.
