Mission Statement
Our Grace Meal mission is to provide respite and a warm meal every Monday to homeless and disadvataged families in the Downtown Albuquerque community; and to provide compasionate guidance and support for individuals who otherwise have severely limited resources.
Description
Every Monday, at noon, the Grace Meal Ministry serves a free, hot, sit-down meal to 150 to 250 people in the Church’s Fellowship Hall. The mission is open to all who come, but concentrates its efforts toward serving homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families, primarily from the south-central area of Albuquerque. With First UMC’s downtown location, this mission serves an important, and somewhat unique function in providing sustenance, and a refuge from the elements, to many who have little to no resource for their daily needs. Many of the Grace Meal guests include families with small children, or have serious handicaps that preclude them from seeking respite at other, more remote sites within the city. As an extension to the feeding program, Grace Meal also provides an important venue for distribution of donated clothing, as well as a number of support programs for substance abuse intervention, veteran’s assistance and spiritual guidance.
