The Seacoast Science Center will be hosting their seventh annual trail run through historic Odiorne State Park. We expect to host over 600 runners/walkers, and will be in need of many volunteers to help us out. Most volunteers will be needed along the trail pointing the way and keeping walks/runners on track. This is an easy task for those who enjoy being outdoors. You must be able to walk for up to 2 miles, able to stand for long periods of time (although you are welcome to bring a beach chair out with you) and enjoy weather of all kinds. Most volunteers will need to be at the Center in Rye, NH by7am and will be well on their way by noon.

Mission Statement

The Seacoast Science Center, located in historically rich Odiorne Point State Park, provides exceptional learning experiences in the marine and environmental sciences through dynamic and innovative programs and exhibits.

Description

Founded in 1992, the Seacoast Science Center is located in Odiorne Point State Park near Portsmouth on the New Hampshire seacoast. It serves 75,000 visitors annually with exhibits that interpret the area's history and habitats, including salt and fresh water aquariums. The only whale skeleton on public display in New Hampshire is the centerpiece of an exhibit interpreting the ecology of the Gulf of Maine through the life story of a young humpback whale named Tofu. Nature programs, offered for all ages from 18 months through senior rediscovery, range in format from nature walks, and hands-on activities to travel programs, lectures and video-conference distance education delivered from the Gregg Interactive Learning Studio. The Studio is equipped with video conferencing and distance learning capabilities that extend the Center's educational reach across the nation. In 2010, NBC's TODAY Show chose the Seacoast Science Center as one of six Lend a Hand Today recipients; the only environmental education organization chosen that year. The 135 acre Park contains seven distinct natural habitats, which make exceptional outdoor classrooms. Park amenities include the Carol Lincoln Memorial Playground, wooded picnic area, breath-taking views of Portsmouth Harbor and the Isles of Shoals, sea-side and wheel-chair accessible trails.
