Practice & utilize your coding skills by working on HTML email newsletters and blog updates! Your time will help to enhance community involvement in Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles' mission for African self-determination and economic development in the black community.

Flexible commitment requirements:

1) One HTML email per month, or as many as two per week

2) A single blog update, or an ongoing position (view the blog: uhurufurniturephilly.blogspot.com)

Due to a high volume of response, and because we are invested in building lasting relationships with web professionals, we prefer volunteers who are local to the greater Philadelphia area. We also have chapters in Oakland, CA, St. Louis, MO and St. Petersburg, FL, so feel free to inquire if you are located/relocating near those areas and we will pass along your information!

Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles - Philadelphia is located at 832 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19130. We hold volunteer orientations every Thursday night from 5-6pm on the second floor of our store. You can come into the store to sign up for the volunteer orientation, or you can call us at 215-546-9616 (x3). You can also check out our blog uhurufurniturephilly.blogspot.com for new items and volunteer projects. We're open 6 days a week from 11am-6pm, every day except Monday!

Mission Statement

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a project of the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF). APEDF strives to develop and institutionalize programs to defend the human and civil rights of the African community, and to address the grave disparities in education, health, healthcare, and economic development of the African community.

Description

Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles is a non-profit store that is a fundraiser for black community empowerment programs of APEDF. We receive a truck load of donated furniture and household items every day. This is a lively, popular Philadelphia store staffed mostly by volunteers. When you volunteer at Uhuru Furniture, you not only contribute to the success of the store, you become part of a larger movement for peace through social justice. People shop at Uhuru Furniture for low priced, top quality items and to support crucial programs for social justice for African people.
