What is Shangri-La?
Shangri-La is a non-profit human services organization serving adults with disabilities and disadvantages so they may recognize and achieve their potential. We aim to create communities where all people are accepted for their abilities and celebrated for their achievements.

What does a Volunteer Serivce Mentor do?
Ideal volunteer will have a passion for engaging others in volunteer service, be friendly and outgoing, exhibit patience, and value the unique abilities and contributions of others.

The Volunteer Service Mentor will research and identify volunteer opportunities for persons-served by Shangri-La with mental illness. Volunteer will also participate in the volunteer opportunities with the person-served.

• Learn the needs, interests and potential barriers of persons-served at Shangri-La’s Adams Lane.
• Research local non-profit organizations and volunteer opportunities to identify appropriate volunteer service opportunities for persons-served
• Identify and complete all necessary pre-volunteer service activities needed (i.e. contact the organization’s volunteer coordinator, approving the activity with house manager, help persons-served complete necessary paperwork, etc.)
• Foster a spirit of volunteerism among persons-served (i.e. get them excited about serving!)
• Attend the service opportunity with persons-served to provide support and positive role-modeling
• Uphold Shangri-La’s confidentiality policy at all times
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times
