Think back to when you were a teenager...did you ever feel vulnerable, unsure of yourself, or alone? Now imagine trying to make sense of all those emotions while being placed in the Child Welfare System at the same time. YES Hawai’i seeks to help teens and young adults navigate this crucial time, by providing peer support and outreach services to youth involved in the child welfare system. This program is designed to engage foster youth in peer mentoring, and meaningful and supportive events and activities. All it takes is 4-8 hours (one day out of the month) for you to make a difference in the lives of our youth! Currently, help is needed with transportation and event support. Please take a moment to review the program goals, then, contact Cassie Kamai at 808-521-9531 228 or ckamai@familyprogramshi.org if you are interested in partnering with us to make these goals a reality! Note: Due to the nature of services we provide, volunteers must be at least 18-years-old, go through a background check, provide TB clearance and ID as well as attend training. Program Goals: Prepare youth for a successful adulthood Give youth a positive forum to build life-long peer relationships with other foster youth Build confidence and a feeling of empowerment Give youth an opportunity to be mentors and leaders Enhance the safety net for foster youth that have limited family support Help youth feel that they are not alone and that there are people who want to them succeed
