We are in need of volunteers to provide medical advocacy for victims of sexual assault or abuse, and their families. Volunteers play an important role in helping victims feel they are not alone and also empowering them to not to blame themselves for the assault or abuse. We provide a 40 hour training session for all volunteers. The training sessions are broken up in two parts, 30 hours of class study along with 10 hours of independent study. The topics discussed include, but are not limited to: rape trauma syndrome, mandated reporting, crisis advocacy skills, domestic violence, Illinois Criminal Sexual Assault laws and hospital procedures. The requirements are as follows: Complete 40 hour training Be flexible to be able to respond to calls when you are schedule on call. Have reliable and consistent transportation and phone service. Have a positive self-image and attitude. Have realistic awareness of abilities and limitations. Be dependable. CALL us if you cannot keep and on-call commitment. Be a team player. Maintain appropriate boundaries with those we serve. Rewards and Benefits; Make a difference in the lives of others through your compassion and concern. Make an impact through one's own special skills. Your volunteer work may fulfill such requirements as: internships with many colleges and universities in areas of study including, but not limited to: Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Counseling. Receive letters of recommendation to places of employment and colleges.

Mission Statement
Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling, Inc. (RSAC) responds to the needs of victims of sexual assault/abuse and their families/significant others through emergency services, emotional support, counseling, referral, advocacy, and education - and promotes awareness and understanding of sexual assault. The focus of RSAC is to provide services to survivors of sexual assault/abuse and to educate the community to reduce the risk of sexual violence.
Description
Provides free counseling for any person who is a survivor of sexual assaultor abuse and their significant others. Adults and children, of past or recent sexual assaults. RSAC also operates information booths, provides self-defense classes to children and adults, and provides prevention programs in area schools.
