JOIN THE WALK FOR ARTHRITIS COMMITTEE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST ARTHRITIS!

The Arthritis Foundation (AF) seeks volunteers to serve on its 2015 TriValley Walk to Cure Arthritis Planning Committee. The Walk will be held on Sat. May 16, 2015 starting at Lifestyle RX in Livermore, CA. Proceeds raised from this event will support research, programs and services for the over two million children and adults living with arthritis in Northern California.

Our first meeting is this Saturday, January 10th from 12:30-1:30P in Livermore (specific details TBD). We would love for you to come meet us and learn more about the Walk.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Committee will provide direction and guidance to the staff event coordinator on major decisions and considerations for the event. This group is instrumental in creating relationships between AF and new sponsors, team captains, participants and in-kind donors.

Committee members should be willing to provide open feedback, initiate new relationships and promote the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in creating an amazing event raising funds for, and awareness about arthritis.

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per month (possible additional hours in May)

Responsibilities:

  • Attend Walk to Cure Arthritis event (Saturday, May 16, 2015)
  • Attend Kick Off Event (TBD Feb/March 2015)
  • Attend two committee meetings per month (at least one meeting each month will be in person).
  • Start a team for the Walk, and fundraise amongst friends and family
  • Advertise the event throughout your social circle.
  • Help execute various parts of the walk as needed/assigned by the Chair.
  • Generate new revenue for the event by accessing personal connections (in-kind donors, sponsors, etc.)
  • Sign up for a specific sub-committee:

Sub-Committees:

  • Marketing & PR
  • Logistics (Dog Walk, Entertainment, Expo Area, Food & Beverage, Kids Zone, Route)
  • Raffle
  • Team Development
  • Volunteer

Description

The Arthritis Foundation Northern California Office:

  • partners with community organizations to provide people with arthritis access to evidence-based physical activity programs (aquatic exercise, land-based exercise, tai chi & walking)
  • offers free educational seminars & patient education brochures
  • provides support and activities for children with Juvenile Arthritis & their families
  • referrals to local rheumatologists, support groups
  • funds arthritis research both locally and nationally
  • provides physicians with continuing medical education in the form of the annual Knowles Lecture
  • offers the Summer Science Intership Program which provides top-notch HS juniors and seniors & college frosh & sophomores the ability to work in arthritis research at UCSF & Stanford.
