Mission Statement

Us Too Gymnastics is dedicated to teaching gymnastics to children with high functioning disabilities, providing a safe place for social interaction, physical activity and facilitate the building of parent support groups.

Description

Us Too Gymnastics was founded in 2004 by two mothers who knew first hand the importance of adding FUN to the daily routine of a child living with a disability. Utilizing their personal backgrounds, the mothers knew gymnastics classes could also be a therapeutic, safe, non-clinical environment for children with special needs. In addition, they determined that while children participated in specifically designed classes, the parents/guardians could receive an opportunity for respite from constant care, support connection from parents in similar situations, and perhaps even share transportation.

With special needs children too misunderstood to fit into typical programs, these two determined mothers decided to organize a program that would enhance the lives of children with disabilities. At our facility, children are given the opportunity to practice communication and social skills which they so desperately lack. Most of all, they have fun in a setting that is not based solely on therapeutic purpose.

Currently classes are designed for Orange County, California children of any ethnicity, ages toddler through twelve and possessing high-functioning disabilities, such as autism, Asperger's syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Down syndrome. Class offerings, include, but are not limited to: Gymnastics, beginning, intermediate and mainstream; Track and Field; and Dance Theater. Specific evaluations, which include skill levels and functionality, determine an appropriate class or individual placement.

For many, social and physical extracurricular activities are limited due to the behavioral problems these children display. Programs specifically designed for children with high functioning disabilities are practically non-existent, and we believe that Us Too Gymnastics may provide that missing link.
