Join the DCR's Universal Access Program and STAVROS Outdoor Access for cross-country skiing, kicksledding and snowshoeing at the Leo J. Martin Memorial Golf Course in January and February. We provide accessible winter recreation for people with disabilities with adaptive equipment, supportive techniques, and assistance as needed. We provide training on use of equipment, sighted guide techniques, disability awareness and more.
The program runs from 12 noon - 4pm and takes place on five Sundays: January 25, February 1, 8, & 22 and one holiday Monday: February 16. The volunteer orientation is on Martin Luther King Day: Monday, January 19th, from 10am to 3 pm.
There's no need to commit to volunteer at every program--even helping at a single program would be great!
There are different roles on program days....you may want to stay at base-camp and help participants put on snow-shoes and skis. Or maybe you want to be on the trails assisting cross-country skiing or walking with a family on snow-shoes. Or maybe registering folks at check-in. It's all helpful!
