Giving Hands

Serving and companioning others during the end of life is a profoundly rewarding experience. At Encompass Hospice. we have a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers who know the wonder, awe, beauty, grief, and joy that can be felt when we walk with families and patients during one of the most profound times of their lives.

We are always seeking volunteers who believe in holistic care for the whole person - emotional, medical, spiritual, and social. Our volunteers do everything from deep listening, to facilitating life review, to helping keep a safe and comfortable home by helping with small chores. Patients may be in private homes, assisted living facilities, memory care facilities, or independent living.

Our volunteers are an integral part of each patient's team, including a doctor, a nurse, a social worker, a certified nursing assistant, and a chaplain. Your input and contribution to the patient's care is invaluable to us as we assist people in their journey towards death and the completion of life. We also welcome volunteers who would like to support the mission of Hospice with administrative work - writing condolence cards, after-death bereavement paperwork, and more.

Each volunteer is given 8 hours of training and will be asked to visit at least one patient, at least every two weeks, for 1-2 hours, though visits can be more often if appropriate for the patient and family. We request that volunteers be willing to commit at least 6-12 months of service.

Other requirements include:

  • TB Test
  • Ability to pass a drug test, including for Marijuana
  • Background Check
  • Valid Drivers Lisence and Auto Insurance
  • Yearly continuing education provided by Encompass Honor Hospice.
