Under the local Sierra Club's school-based environmental education committee, students engage in hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) by focusing on the real environmental problems of the community driven by authentic inquiry. Volunteers will be trained as needed to support and/or deliver the following STEM hands-on environmental science through:

#1 the National Wildlife Federation's "Wildlife Habitat Certification" program, engaging students on wildlife habitat creation, conservation, and characterization [http://www.nwf.org/How-to-Help/Garden-for-Wildlife/Certify-Your-Wildlife-Garden.aspx].

#2 the National Audubon Society's "Audubon Adventures" program, delivering curricula tailored to present Common Core Language Arts & Numeracy and Next Generation of Science Standards for students in grades 3-5 [http://education.audubon.org/what-do-audubon-adventures-classrooms-recieve].

#3 the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology's nationwide citizen science programs (Feederwatch, Nestwatch, Celebrate Urban Birds, Great Backyard Bird Count, etc.) for grades k-12 [http://feederwatch.org; http://nestwatch.org; http://http://www.birdsleuth.org].

#4 the Middle TN Sierra Club's Nearby Nature & ICO (Inspiring Connections Outdoors) programs for grades k-12 on hiking, orienteering, GIS/GPS, recycling, sustainability, local sustainable agriculture, food security, toxic substance control, water/air quality monitoring, geospatial epidemiology, ecosystem restoration, pollution remediation, energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change, etc. with direct connections to community volunteerism, service learning, citizenship, and Earth stewardship.
