The Naomi Project (a program of Britepaths) generally holds two volunteer mentor trainings per year. Bilingual volunteers who speak Spanish are greatly needed. English-only volunteers are also welcome. Trainings result in an average of 20 new mentors per year. Of these, more than half are matched with a client and continue to take on new referrals when their first match has ended.
After participating in the required training session, mentors are matched in one-on-one mentoring relationships with at-risk pregnant and newly parenting women. The Naomi Project makes a commitment to be with the women referred to the program until their children reach the age of three.
The training is a half day, and begins with registration and light refreshments at 8:30 a.m. The training concludes around 1:30 p.m. Refreshments are provided. Training sessions include an overview of the Naomi Project, what it means to be a Naomi Project mentor, presentations by active mentors and Area Coordinators, and a discussion about resources and developing the mentor-client relationship.
To become a mentor, you must complete the volunteer application and attend the training. Access the application here: https://britepaths.org/node/95
Please email your application and to Laura Greenspan at NaomiProject@outlook.com, or mail it to Jill Beres, Britepaths, 4080 Chain Bridge Road, 2nd Floor. If you have any questions, contact Jill Beres at jberes@britepaths.org or 703.273.8829.
Training class sizes are limited, and preference is given to those who have registered in advance. Recent sessions have been full and we have had to start a waiting list; please do not put off registration!
