Do you remember the first book you read that set your imagination on overdrive and made you fall in love with reading? How great was it to create an entire world of your own with just simple words typed out onto a sheet of paper? Now imagine you did not have the reading comprehension to experience that wonderful work of literature. United Way and Carteret- Columbus School needs someone like you to become a coach for the iRead program to work with elementary school students starting at pre-K through 5th grade. Volunteers will assist the teacher as students use computers in guided reading lessons. iRead is the crucial step between a young person understanding the incredible book and falling in love with literature or struggling through the incredible book and falling into a hatred of literature. Be the person who helps make the difference. . If you are interested please contact Imthiaz Azeez at iazeez@uwcj.org or 732-247-3727. UWCJ will make the iRead material available prior to the volunteer’s visit. All the Columbus School Employees and Volunteers must complete a criminal history review by MorphoTrust in order to work with the children (This is a Board of Education requirement). We highly encourage all volunteers to sign up for as many shifts as they are willing and able to do. We are very excited for your interest in this program and we hope to see you soon.
