Reading is fun! That is the message Laguna Beach Library wants to send out to children through their story times. As a storytime leader you would encourage childhood literacy and inspire kids by reading, creating, coordinating, and facilitating a children’s storytime. Volunteers must be 18 years of age. Responsibilities: Read with vigor and enthusiasm. Help maintain order while groups of children participate in storytime & literacy activities. Encourage adult participation in storytime. Prepare crafts and other activities. Required Skills: Childhood Education background. Experience with toddlers and preschool age children. A Smile! A love for children and reading. Creativity. Good dexterity. Attention to detail. A positive attitude and ability to interact with a diverse group of people. Ability to make a minimum commitment of 1-2 hours per week for a period of at least 3 months. Helpful Skills: Familiarity with early literacy concepts and/or child development. Familiarity with children’s authors and literature. Familiarity with children’s rhymes, fingerplays and music.
