The main responsibility of an Ombudsman is to advocate for the nursing home resident's rights and quality of care. The Ombudsman is available to assist in the event a resident is experiencing a problem they have been unable to resolve. An Ombudsman is also available to spend time with the residents and simply visit with them. According to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), approximately 60% of nursing home residents in Texas have no immediate relatives near by or regular visitors. As an Ombudsman, you can be that welcome, friendly face that a nursing home resident looks forward to seeing.
