Visiting those Forgotten in Southeast Michigan

Hospice Advantage serves the terminally ill from all walks of life: rich or poor, those with or without family, those with a 6 month prognosis and those with merely days. The facilities we are recuiting volunteers for tend to care for the later in each case: the poor, those with little to no family, and closer to the end. Because of these circumstances it is generally harder to find volunteers even though these patients tend to be the loneliest and quickest forgotten. If YOU could make an effort to visit one or two facilities a month, you would be providing extra special compassion to an often abandoned population. Because of this level of compassion needed, we are calling our endeavor by that name: Compassionate Friends; and we will provide extra training that will help equip you with the tools necessary to have successful visits. Our first training is scheduled for Saturday, January 17 at 9:30 a.m. The topic will be Best Practices for Communicating with Non-Verbal Patients, you can sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f094eafa62fa5f58-when These specialized trainings will be provided for free and offered quarterly. As a volunteer you will sign-up for one-time visits on Saturdays at a select number of Skilled Nursing Facilities. There is no waiting, just pick the date you want to visit and follow the instructions given on the website. When I see your selection I will email you the details about the plan of care for the patients residing at that facility.

About Compassus Hospice

Location:

30665 Northwestern Hwy, Suite 150, Farmington Hills, MI 48334, US

Mission Statement

The Colleagues of Compassus Hospice are committed to keeping The Hospice Promise by delivering the highest quality of care, serving the needs of patients and families and spreading the stories of hospice to those with whom they come into contact.

Description

Most volunteers feel personally rewarded through offering their time, energy and compassion when they see how much they are able to help patients and families. Further benefits frequently experienced by our volunteers include:

  • Greater self-knowledge from insights gained from relationships with patients, their families and from the hospice volunteer training.
  • Spiritual growth from supporting a person through the final days while increasing the awareness of their own sense of spiritual values.

The people that make up Compassus are dedicated to compassionate care, clinical excellence and providing comfort and support to patients and their families with end-of-life issues. This includes our volunteers.

At Compassus, we believe that every life is unique and deserves a meaningful and personal final journey. Perhaps you’ve experienced hospice services with a member of your family, or are looking for a meaningful way to volunteer your time. If you believe that giving your time can enhance the lives of others, we encourage you to explore volunteer opportunities with Compassus.
