BCHS is a small community organization, but we're nationally recognized as an example of a highly successful rural shelter. We are poised to grow and to be able to share our experience with an even larger area, which will allow us to help even more animals.
You can contribute your experience and skills to help us expand our fundraising capabilities and build our donor relations. We are looking for people with knowledge of many areas of development, including:
- Major gifts
- Planned giving
- Fundraising events
- Crowd sourcing
- Donor relations
- Peer-to-peer fundraising
- Database management
Whether you can provide consulting, serve on the board or a committee, or contribute hands-on skills, we welcome your knowledge and assistance.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Brown County Humane Society is to be a community resource dedicated to promoting the welfare of all animals in our county. We provide temporary shelter to pets in need and promote adoption of homeless pets into loving, permanent homes. We advocate respect for animals through public education concerning responsible pet ownership. We support and promote spaying and neutering to ultimately eliminate pet overpopulation in our community.
Description
The Brown County Humane Society is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing for the health and well-being of the animals of Brown County. We offer a number of services to promote animal health and education about their care.
BCHS operates an open-admission shelter for cats and dogs from Brown County. We are very proud to have an outstanding annual save rate of 95% or more since 2010. No animals in our care are euthanized unless they are deemed too dangerous to be in the community or are too ill and suffering from an illness that can't be treated. All adoptable animals stay with us until a home can be found.
BCHS also provides community programs such as low-cost spay/neuter services, annual rabies clinics, temporary pet food assistance for families in need, shelters for outdoor pets, trap-neuter-return for feral cat colonies, and educational programs.
