Join Habitat for Humanity New York City for our 16 th Annual "Building on the Dream" MLK Jr. Weekend of Service! In recognition of Dr. King’s vision and to continue his dream, we are organizing volunteer projects in four boroughs across New York City. Volunteers can serve on our Construction Sites in southeastern Queens; Critical Home Repair projects on homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy in Staten Island or Coney Island; or at our Brush With Kindness site at a community center in the eastern Bronx. For more general information about each type of project, check out our website at www.habitatnyc.org . To sign up for the Weekend of Service, go to http://habitatnyc.kintera.org/mlk2015 . Space is limited, so don’t delay registering! When you register, you will also have an opportunity to fundraise for your day of service. All money raised will go towards project costs and continuing Habitat NYC’s mission of building homes and hope! If you have any questions, please contact Frances at fhardy@habitatnyc.org . The MLK Weekend of Service is part of United We Serve, President Barack Obama’s national call to service initiative.

Description

Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County creates, preserves, and advocates for healthy, affordable homes and the generational equity-building opportunities that homeownership provides. With the support of thousands of volunteers each year, we’re building a more equitable New York-to address centuries of unjust, racist housing laws and financing mechanisms that prevented communities of color from entering the homeownership market and shaped the geography of the wealth, health, and education inequality we see today.
