The Greater Birmingham Humane Society has been in continual existence since 1883. The organization shelters and adopts unwanted pets to responsible, loving homes. Greater Birmingham Humane Society also investigates animal cruelty in cooperation with local law enforcement officials. Greater Birmingham Humane Society provides educational resources to local schools and other organizations and promotes responsible pet ownership throughout the community.

  • Humane Teen Club - allows youth from 12 to 15 years old to participate in GBHS activities and earn points leading to their graduation as a full-fledged GBHS volunteer prior to being 16 years of age.
  • Reading Library - is available to the public and contains numerous books on animal behavior, breed types, and other animal related materials. Books may not be removed from the library but the public is welcome to utilize this resource.
